1.) Crystal Cameo Necklace – Fuschia Pink by Starchild by Saffron ($21.75)
I’ve heard great things about Starchild by Saffron’s jewelry and would love to add this amazingly pink, cartoony take on a classic cameo necklace–something I’m always a sucker for!

2.) The Audrey, A Crochet Cocktail Hat in Mustard by Manzanita ($30.00)
All of Manzanita’s adorable crochet accessories are killin’ me, but I especially love this little mustard hat!

3.) Recycled Diamond Glass Terrarium by Meg A. Myers Designs ($60.00)
I’ve been wanting to get in on the succulent/terrarium trend for a while. I feel like it would be an easy way to add some nature to my apartment without being as fickle or needy as another plant might be… plus, how cute would ANYTHING be in this little diamond? Love it.

4.) “Walkabout” Print by Geninne’s Art Store ($30.00)
I love Geninne’s gorgeous work and blog so much and would love to take home one of her lovely little birds.

5.) Butterfly Knitted Necklace – Bright Coral by Amy Lawrence Designs (£28.00/$46.67)
I love the unexpected, interesting touch and texture a knit accessory gives an outfit. Amy Lawrence makes beautiful pieces with fabulous colors and chevron-esque designs.

6.) Bow Bracelet by Friendly Gesture ($18.00)
Okay, so I’ve established that I’m a total bow addict by now, right? Good. Perfection.

7.) Whole Lotta Love Necklace by Friendly Gesture ($22.00)
Friendly Gesture hits me right in my other weakness–hearts! This adorable string of little wooden hearts in perfect. It would wear well with anything, but I’m dreaming of it hanging below a collared neck.

8.) Personalized Crossstitch Alphabet Ring by MaMagasin (£18.00/$30.00)
Apparently I’m really craved a personalized alphabet crossstiched something-or-other–I included a similar necklace on my last Etsy Wishlist! This ring is so cute and at such a small scale, it would feel so precious.

September Outtakes

I can’t believe I’m putting up September outtakes already… this month flew by so quickly! Working at a monthly magazine always kinda messes up your perception of time, but jeez. In September, I went to the Japanese Festival and the zoo, hit some thrift jackpots, tried to be a better grocery shopper, tried to be supportive of my Mom’s medical problems, ran around crazily for my multiple jobs… I’m hoping to relax and enjoy more fall traditions and activities in October.

This month there’s a couple sneak peeks of failed outfit shots and an illustration that’s not wholly blog appropriate. Hahaha, it was a very fun gift/request for my dear friend, Sammie’s birthday.

Big Book of Cats: Candy

The Big Book of Cats is a weekly illustration project. In 1998, I was 11 years old and decided to make a 200 page encyclopedia of anthropomorphic cat girls. I’ve made a vow to honor this horrific piece of literature and redraw every cat girl and post a new drawing along with the original for the internet’s amusement. Want to know more? Read my official introduction here and check out all the drawings so far here!

You’re welcome and I’m so so sorry.

Candy looks like a cool, coffee house chick. I’m sure back in 1998, she was all about this playlist and idolized Janeane Garofalo.

The sweater/denim jumper/saddle shoe combo would still make her a cool, coffee house chick today! Reminds me of something the lovely Erin of Calivintage would wear. I certainly would!

Sea Lions and Waffles

On Sunday morning, my boyfriend turned to me and asked what I wanted to do that day. I said “sea lions and waffles”.

Our local zoo has a cool new sea lion exhibit where you can walk through one of those glass tube walkways and watch them swim around you. The crowds have been nuts all summer, so I wanted to wait until the fall to check it out. I didn’t really think it through that we were going on a 65 degree, gorgeous sunny Sunday, so the crowds were still nuts and still no sea lions for me. :( But I got my chicken and waffles at least.

We got to see some pretty sweet other animals in action, though. An angry gorilla threw a rock at us, we saw a trainer throw fish at a bear, and there were so many lions! Good zoo day.

And here’s what I wore. :)

Bow, Black Collared Shirt: Forever21 | Spiked Bracelet: UO | T-Shirt: Frank Chimero
Floral Jeans: Target | Shoes: Old Navy | Purse: Vintage Coach

This is the sort of outfit I’ve been waiting to be able to wear! Cooler temperatures have finally allowed it.

I tried to paint a little black kitty on my nails, but it turned out pretty wonky. :/

For a Good Time, Call…

I saw For A Good Time, Call last week. Once I looked for a more in depth trailer than the short teasers they allow on TV, my interest was piqued. I love comedies, but seem to be really underwhelmed by them lately. The promise of a raunchy comedy starring two lovely ladies will always get my attention.

I really wanted it to be good, but went in with cautious expectations. It’s getting pretty mixed reviews and of course could be kinda stupid and rely too heavily on cheap sex gags.

Um, it was basically the film of my dreams. Both lead actresses were adorable and endearing–I’m especially in love with Ari Graynor–it was so sex positive, the raunch was perfect and not played out, the characters were relatable and lovely, Justin Long is delightful, sex work as a profession was neither shamed nor glorified, and the girls had a super sweet female friendship! It was just a good balance of everything and very cute and funny. I recommend it. :)

Haha, I’m no writer, but I’d like to briefly talk about and illustrate some movies, tv shows, music, and whatever other pop culture nonsense I’m currently obsessing over. Have any of you guys seen any good movies lately?

OOTD: Transitions

Necklace: F21 | Shirt: Old Navy | Belt, Skirt: Thrifted | Shoes: Blowfish | Samsonite Bag: Vintage

I reached an important blogging milestone this week. I got a tripod and a camera remote! Haha, I am very excited about my new toys and I feel like my photos already look better! I always feel like I need to rush and cause as little annoyance as possible when I ask friends to take my photos.

This is a very end-of-summer look for me. I feel like a lot of us are in a frustrating sartorial transition right now. We’re all ready for cozy knits, tights, and interesting layers, but the heat isn’t quite done with us yet.

FF06: Fashion Week

Last week was NY Fashion Week and I always love getting a glimpse at all the shows and events through the eyes of some of my favorite bloggers! I wanted to share some of my favorite looks from the runways this season and see what story that told about my current taste. Haha, it’s pretty much exactly what I expected–over the top feminine, full skirts, whimsical patterns, edgy details… I’m a predictable girl!

I like Rochelle. I like that she has a unique personality and is a spunky little swimmer. According to her bio, she has hazel eyes and hails from California. Probably likes to surf.

instagram all day everyday

Thanks for the sweet comments and concerns about my mom! On Saturday we found out that the problem is torn cartilage and she got to come home! She’s much happier and doing better. Later this week she’ll find out if any surgery is necessary or if she just needs physical therapy. Good news!

I haven’t been able to get my shit together enough to take lovely outfit photos for the past week or so, but today I ordered a tripod and camera remote! I’m excited to play super important fashion model deluxe and give my bf a break. He’s not the most enthusiastic photographer.

Just gonna share some recent phone and web cam photos today because they’re silly and fun. :) Follow me on instagram @sockie182!

Life Catching Up.

No Friday Faves today because I haven’t had much time for blogging this week. Most of my posts were scheduled ahead of time.

I’ve been going nonstop for the past few days between my jobs and visiting my mom in the hospital. She fell on her knee–her good knee–about a month ago. This knee started acting up last week and she’s been in the hospital since Monday being tested and taken care of. She goes through phases of excruciating pain and can barely walk. She can’t eat much because the pain meds make her nauseous. I know she’ll be okay once they figure out what’s wrong, but it’s so hard watching her in pain. They’ve done x-rays and MRIs and found nothing wrong, but have ruled out nerve damage, which is good. Tomorrow we find out if it’s a ligament/muscle problem. I just want to know what it is and move on to treatment. The uncertainty is killing me and the boring hospital bed is killing my mom.

Hopefully next week I can resume a normal schedule and relax a bit. Have a lovely weekend, everyone! ♥
