STLFW Emerging Designer Competition

November 9, 2015

saint louis fashion week

Last Wednesday night I attended the biggest runway show of Saint Louis Fashion Week, the Emerging Designer Competition at Union Station. More than 1,200 attendees were there to see the beautiful pieces from Haus Alkire, Eckhaus Latta, Azede Jean-Pierre, Houghton, and Novis hit the runway. This is the event I’m always most excited to see. Everyone shows up in their very best attire and the fashion presented is always from top notch designers on the cusp of fame.

Furthering the passion to spotlight a new generation of innovative fashion designers, the mission of the Caleres Emerging Designer Award presented by Saint Louis Fashion Fund is to offer a platform for aspiring designers to gain the attention of national press and buyers, and to offer the grand prize of a cash grant to one designer. The top six designers were chosen by the Saint Louis Fashion Fund panel, a group of editors, buyers and marketing professionals. This year the $25,000 prize was awarded to Katharine Polk of Houghton.

I’ve seen Novis collections at previous fashion week events and their pieces are always some of my favorites. I expect smart use of color, lively prints, and cuts that really flatter the average woman’s shape. This season they didn’t disappoint and were probably my favorite of the night.

Azede Jean-Pierre

Sophisticated and causal vibes dominated the Azede Jean-Pierre collection. I loved the chambray pieces, especially that cute little dress.

Haus Alkire

Haus Alkire effortlessly mixed tropical vibes with business casual and topped the looks with surprising hat choices.

Houghton S/S 16

We all know I have a thing for a flowy white dress. I let out many “oohs” and “aahs” as the Houghton models floated down the runway, especially for that short one! I was happy to see Katharine Polk take home the winning prize.

Eckhaus Latta

The show ended with Eckhaus Latta. I got futuristic, architectural vibes. I love the interesting draping going on with that stunning red dress.

Thank you to ALIVE Magazine and Midwest Influencer Network for always making STLFW an amazing experience and for making my participation possible. The Emerging Designer Competition is possible thanks to Union Station, Caleres, Saint Louis Fashion Fund.
