Big Book of Cats: Cecilia

The Big Book of Cats is a weekly illustration project. In 1998, I was 11 years old and decided to make a 200 page encyclopedia of anthropomorphic cat girls. I’ve made a vow to honor this horrific piece of literature and redraw every cat girl and post a new drawing along with the original for the internet’s amusement. Want to know more? Read my official introduction here and check out all the drawings so far here!

You’re welcome and I’m so so sorry.

Usually I honor my endearing childhood spelling choices for these names, but I’m sorry, girl. I just can’t let this one slide. Sometimes just sounding it out is not the best policy, but I guess I wasn’t really able to google it at the time.

Cecilia, I’m sorry I butchered your lovely name and I’m even more sorry that you’re such a shameless French stereotype. Also, sorry that I didn’t really try to move beyond that for the new drawing, but that stripes/scarf/beret combo is just flawless.

    I love Cecilia’s attitude.

I am digging her face and body posture like whooooa and omg gurl, saSEALya I am in tears

lmao ikr I should have just drawn her as a seal. What would a seal anthro even look like? I’m sure a quick DeviantArt search would tell me.

Comments from you always brighten my day! Thanks, gurl. :) <3

Can I just say that this series in both terrible and amazing. It’s actually why I started following your blog. I used to do similar projects as a ’90s/’00s tween. Glad you are bringing yours to light!

Aww, thanks so much! I’m so happy others are enjoying it, too. I’m having a blast. :)

oooh, girl is so rebellious with her cigarette. I really dig this pose, and particularly that little sideways glance she is rocking.
Little known fact: Simon and Garfunkel were originally going to call the song SeSEALya, but the chorus was just “arf! arf! arf” and it did not go over well with test groups.

Hahaha, what an enlightening fun fact! ;)

Once again, the original concept here is more sophisticated than anything I come up with on even my best day. Aside from the crude perpetuation of the stereotype that all French women smoke and wear sailor stripes and berets. OMG SO INSENSITIVE.
