The Big Book of Cats is a weekly illustration project. In 1998, I was 11 years old and decided to make a 200 page encyclopedia of anthropomorphic cat girls. I’ve made a vow to honor this horrific piece of literature and redraw every cat girl and post a new drawing along with the original for the internet’s amusement. Want to know more? Read my official introduction here and check out all the drawings so far here!
You’re welcome and I’m so so sorry.

Well, I’m sure you’ve all wondered how long it would take for one of the cat girls to be named Kitty and here she is! #20! Definitely shocked it took that long, especially since I managed to think of “Sasealya” first.
Kitty is like the trashiest employee at Medieval Times or something. I don’t really know what that half-assed show girl outfit is appropriate for–a scrunchie? Really?–but you go girl!

I tried to give Kitty a cute make-over with some fancier frills and replace the generous décolletage display with some booty flashin’. Aw yeah.

One of my favorites yet! <3
I love your interpretation, she looks like a -now classy- burlesque dancer! For some reason, around the time I hit the 5th grade, all my drawings suddenly sprouted embarrassingly large chests, similar to Kitty 1.0, glad to know I wasn’t alone.
that book is awesome
Cat burlesque… now I’ve seen everything!! Kitty should star in an all-cats version of Moulin Rouge (Mew-lin Rouge, perhaps? haha!)
I LOVE THIS
So cute…love it.^^
Maybe follow each other on bloglovin???
Let me know follow you then back…
Lovely greets Nessa
I just LOVE this series…and Kitty is one of my favourites! x
Me-ow! ;) She’s adorable!!! I love her headband feathers and that heart. <3 Such a cute outfit, especially those ruffles!!!
Those little cheeks hanging out! So funny! I’m surprised it took you this long to come up with “Kitty” too. Here is the question: how long did it take 11-year old Michelle to fill the notebook in the first place? Was it a few days of feverish drawing or was it a longer period of time? The world must know!
Haha, as with most Michelle projects, I’m pretty sure I worked enthusiastically for a few days or weeks and then got bored and forgot about it for a while. I think I remember picking it back up and finishing some months later… Probably took about a year total.
YES!!! I really can’t wait until you finish and this is (hopefully) all available in book form. Like, coffee table book status. I love them all so much :)
I LOVE THIS POST SERIES.
Haha, I love her bum.
Love the juicy colors & shading on her skirt. And the new blog design, woo!

Cuh-yooot! I love her seamed stockings.
Okay I am seriously in love. So much love. The fact that you took something from your childhood and nurtured it and created it to be something even more awesome in your adulthood is seriously beautiful. Also the way you took the skinny cats you drew when you were little and drew them rounder now – I appreciate that SO MUCH! Accepting and beautifying curves makes my heart so happy. Also, this: “Definitely shocked it took that long, especially since I managed to think of “Sasealya” first.” Seriously girlfriend, I don’t even know how to pronounce that one, but I love it.
Awww, this is such an awesome comment, thank you! <3 I’ve actually received comments before asking why I draw the new girls “so much fatter”. I try to add more physical diversity in the new drawings. So many of the originals were super thin because an 11 year old with a not-great sense of anatomy drew them. I have more fun drawing more shapely ladies nowadays.
So A Cat Named Kitty I get, but looking at the (cute) art, I’m wondering if maybe eleven year old you had ever watched the old Western series Gunsmoke. Because this totally looks like the character Miss Kitty who ran the saloon. :)
