Big Book of Cats: Susie #2

September 11, 2013

The Big Book of Cats is a weekly illustration project. In 1998, I was 11 years old and decided to make a 200 page encyclopedia of anthropomorphic cat girls. I’ve made a vow to honor this horrific piece of literature and redraw every cat girl and post a new drawing along with the original for the internet’s amusement. Want to know more? Read my official introduction here and check out all the drawings so far here!

You’re welcome and I’m so so sorry.

As we get further through the middle of the Big Book of Cats, you can tell that I was trying to inject some more diversity. Not diversity in the sense that most of them are wearing anything other than a crop top–why would they?! This was 1998 and these girls are cool–but there are some differing age groups.

This is Susie and she is 7 years old. She’s pretty stylish, actually. She’s dressed like a child model for the Gap or something.

Not much to say about this one. She’s cute! I had fun thinking of a more child-like pose than usual.

  • Oh man she is cute! I love her hair and face.

  • definitely like a child model from Gap or J crew! So cute.

  • I wish I was that stylish when I was 7, but instead I rocked a ‘I got a comb stuck in my hair so I cut it out’ hair style and my brothers hand-me-downs, haha.

    • Michelle

Hahaha, I definitely rocked that style when I was a kid, too! ;)

  • Kim

She’s adorable with her vest and scalloped collar :)

  • I love the pink bows with the green top – one of my fav colour combos! ^__^

  • I’ve been wanting to say how much I LOVE this series. I recently was home back in ohio and went through my junior high sketch books and notebooks, and I was the exact same. I had so many characters drawn out for a multitude of stories I wrote or at least wrote a synopsis for. And I determined their sign, and eye color, and best friends, and so on. So I brought back these sketch books back to Cali with me, and I am so temped to maybe use a couple for a basis of painting series. You’re inspiring me to look to my past and see how to interpret them in my new medium oil. Thanks so much. Now let’s just see if I get around to painting anything!

Love everytime you post something although I’m usually on my phone and can’t comment :(

    • Michelle

Aww, thank you for the sweet comment, Lauren! I love hearing about other people revisiting their old creative projects, too. You should totally get painting! <3
